Enable sheet protection for a worksheet to protect it from unwanted changes. When sheet protection is enabled, all cells that are marked accordingly are protected in the current worksheet. Furthermore, many commands are grayed out (are thus no longer selectable) and no objects can be inserted.

Before you enable sheet protection, however, you must first define which cells are to be protected and how extensive the protection is to be.

Protecting cells involves two steps:
