Using hyperlinks

Choose the ribbon command Insert | group Links | Hyperlink to add a hyperlink to cell contents or complete cells at any time. Hyperlinks are links to, for example, websites or other documents, which can then be opened simply by clicking on the link.

If, for example, you link a cell to a web page, the web browser will automatically start when you click on this link and will access this page in it.

It is also possible to use an e-mail address as a destination or the file path of another document. You can enter a cell address as the jump target for the current document or another document to be opened, which will take you directly to the cell address when you click on the link.

Creating a hyperlink

To create a hyperlink, proceed as follows:

1.Select the cell or cell contents to which you want to attach a hyperlink.
2.Choose the ribbon command Insert | group Links | Hyperlink hyperlink_icon. A dialog box opens.
3.Select the type of link you want to create in the Type section:
For links to a jump target (see below) within the current document, select Current file.
For links to another document, select File. Use the Browse button to select the file path or enter the file path manually. Optional: In the Jump target field, you can also specify the target position in the document to be opened (see below).
For links to an e-mail address, select E-mail and enter the recipient's address – for example, "xy@example.com".
For links to web pages, select URL and enter the address of the page – for example, "www.example.com".
To delete an existing link, select None (see also "Editing or removing a hyperlink" below).
4.Optional: In the Display text field, you can change the text for the cell you have just selected in the document. If the cell is empty, PlanMaker automatically inserts the text that was entered for the path in step 3.
5.Confirm with OK.
Note: The Reset button allows you to undo all changes made in the open dialog box provided that you have not yet confirmed them with OK.

The hyperlink is now created. You recognize this by a change in the color of the text, which indicates the presence of a link. (Provided that there is text in the cell.)

Tip: Links to URLs and e-mail addresses can be created faster and easier if the option Format URLs as hyperlinks is enabled in the dialog box of the ribbon command Review | Auto correction. You can then type the destination address (for example, "www.example.com" or "mailto:xy@example.com") directly into the text and press the space bar. PlanMaker recognizes that you have entered a web address or e-mail address and automatically formats it as a link. This setting is global and not document-specific.

Tip: Alternatively, hyperlinks can also be inserted using the HYPERLINK function, which is much more flexible to use.

Jumping to a specific bookmark or cell address

The aforementioned dialog box also gives you the option of specifying a jump target if necessary in the document to be opened. For Jump target, enter the bookmark (for TextMaker or HTML documents) or the cell address (for PlanMaker documents) to which you want to jump.

Example: If you set File to "Sales.pmdx" and enter "Sheet2!D42" under Jump target, the link will open the file Sales.pmdx and jump to cell D42 in Sheet2.

If you want to jump to a cell address in the current document, all existing worksheets in the PlanMaker document are automatically listed as available jump targets. Select the desired worksheet and specify the exact cell. The result in the Jump target input field then looks like this, for example: Sheet2!D42

Opening hyperlinks

To open a hyperlink, simply click on the cell or text containing the hyperlink with the mouse. PlanMaker then opens the linked document.

Editing or removing a hyperlink

Existing hyperlinks can be edited as follows:

Changing destination

To change the destination of a hyperlink, select the cell(s) or text passage with the link, and then choose the ribbon command Insert | group Links | Hyperlink again. The program again displays the dialog box in which you can edit the destination for the link.

To remove a hyperlink, proceed as follows:

Removing a hyperlink by deleting the link text/cell

If you delete a text passage that contains a hyperlink, the link will also be removed. If a cell is deleted completely, this also removes the hyperlink applied to the cell.

Removing only the hyperlink

If you only want to remove the hyperlink from the cell, but retain the cell itself and its contents, select it and choose the ribbon command Home | group Contents | Delete | Remove link.
Alternatively, select the option None in the Type section of the aforementioned dialog box.

Changing the color of hyperlinks

To change the color of hyperlinks, choose the ribbon command Layout | Colors color_schemes_icon_18 and select the entry Edit theme at the bottom of the dropdown menu. In the following dialog box, you can edit the current color theme individually – including the color for hyperlinks. For more information, see Colors.
