Using hyperlinks

With the ribbon command Insert | group Links | Hyperlink, you can add a hyperlink to text. Hyperlinks are links to web pages or other documents, for example, which can then be opened simply by pressing Ctrl + left mouse button on this text.

(Android/iOS: In the context menu with the command Go to hyperlink)

If, for example, you link a word in the text to a web page, the web browser will automatically start when you click on this word and will access this page in it.

It is also possible to use an e-mail address as a destination or the file path of another document. If the current document or another document to be opened contains a bookmark, you can navigate directly to the location of the bookmark by clicking on the link.

Creating a hyperlink

To create a hyperlink, proceed as follows:

1.Select the text to which you want to attach a hyperlink.
2.Choose the ribbon command Insert | group Links | Hyperlink hyperlink_icon. A dialog box opens.
3.Select the type of link you want to create in the Type section:
For links to a bookmark (see below) within the current document, select Current file.
For links to another document, select File. Use the Browse button to select the file path or enter the file path manually. Optional: In the Bookmark field, you can also specify the target position in the document to be opened (see below).
For links to an e-mail address, select E-mail and enter the recipient's address – for example, "xy@example.com".
For links to web pages, select URL and enter the address of the page – for example, "www.example.com".
To delete an existing link, select None (see also "Editing or removing a hyperlink" below).
4.Optional: In the Display text field, you can change the text that is currently selected in the document. If nothing has been selected in the document, TextMaker automatically inserts the path specified in step 3. as the text.
5.Confirm with OK.
Note: The Reset button allows you to undo all changes made in the open dialog box provided that you have not yet confirmed them with OK.

The hyperlink is now created. You recognize this by a change in the color of the text, which indicates the presence of a link.

Tip: Links to URLs and e-mail addresses can be created faster and easier if the option Format URLs as hyperlinks is enabled in the dialog box of the ribbon command Review | Auto correction. You can then type the destination address (for example, "www.example.com" or "xy@example.com") directly into the text and press the space bar. TextMaker recognizes that you have entered an Internet address or e-mail address and automatically formats it as a link.

This setting is global and not document-specific. If, in some cases, you do not want the conversion to a link at certain points, right-click on the link to open the context menu and select Remove hyperlink. Alternatively, use the Undo command directly after the conversion to a link.

Jumping to a specific bookmark

The aforementioned dialog box also gives you the option of specifying the target position if necessary in the current document or another document to be opened. For Bookmark, enter the bookmark to which you want to jump.

Example: If you enter Report.tmdx for File and the name of a bookmark in this document for Bookmark and then open this link, the file Report.tmdx will be opened and the text cursor will be positioned at the specified bookmark.

For information on how to add a bookmark to a text passage in the current document, see Bookmarks.

Opening hyperlinks

To open a hyperlink, simply click on the text with the hyperlink using the key combination Ctrl + left mouse button. TextMaker then opens the linked document.

Alternatively, you can also set the text cursor to any position within the link text, and then right-click to open the context menu and select the entry Go to link.

Editing or removing a hyperlink

Existing hyperlinks can be edited as follows:

Changing destination

To change the destination of a hyperlink, select the link text and then choose the ribbon command again Insert | group Links | Hyperlink (alternatively via the context menu: Edit link). The program again displays the dialog box in which you can edit the destination for the link.

To remove a hyperlink, proceed as follows:

Removing a hyperlink by deleting the link text

If you delete text that contains a hyperlink, the link is also removed.

Removing only the hyperlink

If you only want to remove the hyperlink but retain the associated section of text, select it and then right-click to select the entry Remove hyperlink in the context menu.
Alternatively, select the option None in the Type section of the aforementioned dialog box.

Changing the color of hyperlinks

To change the color of hyperlinks, choose the ribbon command Layout | Colors color_schemes_icon_18 and select the entry Edit theme at the bottom of the dropdown menu. In the following dialog box, you can edit the current color theme individually – including the color for hyperlinks. For more information, see Colors.
