Defer layout update

At the bottom of the field list, you will find the option Defer layout update. It is combined with the Update button on the right, but is not related to the option Refresh data. For more information, see Updating pivot tables and changing data area.

When you reposition fields in the field list, for example, add/remove/move fields in the areas section, the pivot table report is recalculated each time. This can take quite some time with large reports. Thus, if you want to temporarily disable continuous recalculation, please proceed as follows:

1.Place a check mark in the Defer layout update checkbox. You can then reorder the fields of your pivot table, but you will not initially see the resulting changes in the pivot table report. In addition, all other editing options for this state are disabled.
2.Once you have finished repositioning the fields, click on the Update button to see the result of the change.
3.Remove the check mark from the Defer layout update checkbox.

Note: If you disable the option Defer layout update again without clicking on Update, all arrangements of the fields that you have made since the option was enabled will be discarded.
